Giving blood tests
Giving blood tests at the Fetal Ultrasound Center
Blood tests can be given at the Fetal Ultrasound Center every workday. The date and time of giving blood must be confirmed with the administrator of the Fetal Ultrasound Center.
You can eat as normal before giving blood tests to check the necessary hormones for doing the OSCAR test and for assessing the risk of preeclampsia. It is not advised to eat before giving blood tests for the registration of pregnancy and for the glucose tolerance test.
Giving blood tests outside of the Fetal Ultrasound Center
Patients who live outside of Tallinn can provide blood tests at fourteen different blood collection points all over Estonia.
If you want to have an OSCAR test or an ultrasound examination during the later stage of pregnancy and a risk assessment of preeclampsia, you must book an appointment for providing blood tests with the help of our administrator.
- A blood test for the OSCAR test can be provided in the 11th–13th+6 gestational week.
- To assess the risk of preeclampsia, a blood test can be provided in the 19th-22nd and 35th-37th gestational week.
The accuracy of the OSCAR test is highest if the levels of pregnancy hormones are measured in the 11th gestational week and if the ultrasound examination is carried out in the 13th gestational week.
Our administrator will help you calculate the exact size of your pregnancy based on the data you have provided, and therefore recommend a specific date for providing a blood test. We advise you to have an ultrasound examination with your current gynaecologist or midwife before your appointment with us in order to specify the size of your pregnancy and your due date.
Personal identification is necessary at the blood collection points, therefore we ask you not to forget to bring your identification document with you when going to give blood.
If you wish to provide blood tests in Haapsalu, Kärdla, Rakvere, Paide or Rapla, our administrator will send you a letter of referral beforehand via e-mail which must be printed out and taken with you to the lab. At the blood collection points of other towns, you do not need our letter of referral to provide blood tests.
- At the blood collection points, no costs will be presented to you for the analyses ordered by the Fetal Ultrasound Center. You will pay for the analyses at the Fetal Ultrasound Center. Providing blood tests is free of charge.
- If you want additional analyses that the Fetal Ultrasound Center has not ordered for you, you will have to pay for it yourself at the blood collection point.
- For the Panorama test blood can only be given at the Fetal Ultrasound Center.
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask you to wear a disposable medical mask at the blood collection point.
If you have given blood outside of Tallinn, we advise you to arrive at the Fetal Ultrasound Center at least 15 to 20 minutes before your ultrasound examination, so that the midwife or nurse can measure your blood pressure, weight and take a detailed anamnesis concerning the obstetrics. This information is necessary for the risk calculation program to calculate the fetal chromosomal risk and/or Your risk of preeclampsia. Keep in mind that the risk calculations are more accurate when blood pressure and weight are measured on the day of the ultrasound examination.
