Pregnancy week by week

Selected week:

You

Does your poor night sleep disturb leg cramps? In the opinion of some doctor the reason of the latter is the overload of legs, in the opinion of others the lack of calcium or magnesium or even pressure put by the uterus on leg nerves. The growing weight surely increases the load on both back and legs. The child also presses more and more on the inner organs and intestines, but do not forget that all these troubles disappear after birth.

The anaemia during pregnancy is most frequent complication of pregnancy which is encountered by half of the pregnant women. The iron reserve during pregnancy is used by the increased blood creation of the mother to secure the growth of the fetus. The risk of iron deficiency anaemia is increased by repeated bleedings during pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, pregnancies one after another, acute and chronic diseases of the mother. The given stage of pregnancy is the best time to check the value of haemoglobin of one’s venous blood. Low values of haemoglobin are connected with the low birth weight of the child and higher risk of premature birth.

If your blood group is rhesus negative and the father of the child rhesus positive, your midwife performs blood analysis for the study of anti-rhesus bodies for diagnostics of rhesus incompatibility.

If you wish to know whether your fetus is rhesus positive or not, you might be interested n the setting of pre-birth fetal rhesus from the mother’s venous blood.

Your baby

The baby weighs about 1.4 kilograms and is about 39 centimetres tall. The adipose tissue forms about 3 percent of its weight. The baby drinks up to half a litre of amniotic fluid a day and excretes it as urine. The amniotic fluid renews and cleans all the time.  The red corpuscles are formed in the bone marrow and the nerve cells are continuously been forming in the brain. The baby’s brain is so developed that it starts to regulate its body temperature by itself. The baby can sleep during a day and be awake during night by hindering you to have a rest. Fortunately this does not mean necessarily that it continues the same daily routine when been born.

Dr. Marek Šois recommends

When you leg is in cramps, stretch it slightly out by bending your toes towards yourself. Drink enough liquid and avoid standing for a long time. If you have severe anaemia diagnosed or your blood includes anti-rhesus bodies and your fetus is suspected to have rhesus incompatibility, you might be interested in our ultrasound test for early detection of anaemia of the fetus.
