You
There is little room in your stomach and the movements of the baby are more infrequent and stronger. The body prepares for the birth and your joints and ligaments become more elastic. The contractions of the uterus occur more often. If you stand up too fast, your head might start to spin, as your blood pressure has fallen.
Your baby
Your baby weighs now 2300 g and is about 44 cm tall. Its skin is pinkish and there are less little hairs and fetal ointment. This month the child’s skin becomes thicker and the antibodies are formed inside the body. Regardless of the future colour, the baby’s eyes are blue at the moment. When being born now, your child has very high possibility to survive, as it is ready to be born in the physical sense. During the following weeks it gathers only underskin adipose tissue which is required to cope with sudden changes of temperature.
What to do?
Drink a lot of water. This helps if your hands and legs are swollen. Avoid lifting heavy objects. If the idea of giving birth makes you anxious, maybe you will calm down when you become more aware of what is ahead for you. Clarify which are the different stages of birth, how is anaesthetization performed and what you can do for yourself during birth. According to the studies the length and complicacy of the birth could be related to anxiety and fear before painful experience and also becoming pregnant. When the child’s father cannot or does not want to be by the birth and you do not want to go through it alone, then discuss with the close persons who could support you.
If your baby has not developed as expected or if you feel that the baby’s movements have become inactive, you might be interested in our welfare condition examination of the fetus including the assessment of blood supply of the fetus and placenta.
